Young Artist Program

Program Overview

The FCMF Young Artist Program is a three-day chamber music festival/composition seminar held in Boulder, CO. The Young Artist Program is designed to bring together Internationally-Acclaimed Artists and local young artists to collaborate through a series of coachings, masterclasses, workshops, and side-by-side readings. ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME TO APPLY.

Eligibility

Open to Students - High School, Middle School, and recently graduated from High School, for the following categories:

  • Violin

  • Viola

  • Cello

  • Piano

  • Composition

Details

The three-day intensive collaborative chamber music/composition workshop will include the following activities:

  • Chamber Groups

    • Instrumentalists will be put into chamber groups (string and piano trios, quartets, quintets) based on age, level, and experience

  • Coachings and Masterclasses

    • Instruction from artists of the highest caliber from around the world (including Europe and Asia)

    • Opportunities to perform for peers in a masterclass setting

  • Workshops

    • Learn how to rehearse effectively

    • Learn about the important priorities and tools for collaborative playing

  • Side-by-Side Reading Sessions

    • Read and work on classical masterpieces with the FCMF Artist/Faculty​

  • Composition

    • Work with the award-winning composer and FCMF Composer-in-Residence Benjamin Park​

    • Private lessons and group seminars

    • Reading/Performance of the works by the Young Artist instrumentalists and the FCMF Artist/Faculty

  • Performance Opportunity

    • All groups perform​ in the Final Concert (June 16, time TBD)

  • Free Tickets to ALL of the FCMF Artist Concerts

    • Three core concerts​

Application Information

  • Instrumentalists - Must submit an audio or video along with their application for admission. The Audition tape should include at least ONE piece of the applicant’s choice, representing their musical strengths and abilities. 

  • Composition Students - Submit 1-3 scores of your own compositions.  Include, if possible, one piece whose instrumentation is a subset of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, and piano (2 of any string instrument, or piano 4 hands, is also acceptable).  Submit recordings (preferred) or MIDI realizations of your scores if available.​

  • Application Deadline is May 15th, 2019. Application fee - $25
